The Sun Racing team have studied the form and picked out their best bets for Friday’s racing from Chepstow, Newmarket and York. Here are their selections:
CHEPSTOW
- 1.50 Mister Watson – He showed plenty of promise on his debut at Newbury, finishing third behind two smart prospects. He should improve for that experience and this longer trip. He gets the nod over Berkshire Phoenix, who was second in a decent maiden at Ascot last time.
- 2.25 Galah – He made a winning debut at Salisbury in good style, beating a subsequent winner. He looks a colt with plenty of potential and can defy a penalty in this novice event. Majestic Glory is the main danger after a close second at Newmarket on his first start.
- 3.00 Royal Scimitar – He was an impressive winner of a maiden at Newbury in August, showing a good turn of foot to score by two lengths. He was not disgraced when fourth in a Group 3 at the same track last time, but he may appreciate this drop in class and trip. Just Frank is a progressive rival who won a valuable sales race at Newmarket last time.
- 3.35 Prado – She has been knocking on the door in her last three starts, finishing second each time. She was only beaten a neck at Ascot last time and looks ready to get off the mark in this handicap. She has a handy draw and should go close under Oisin Murphy. Crazy Luck is another consistent filly who can make the frame.
- 4.10 Euchen Glen – He has been in fine form this season, winning three times over various trips. He was an impressive winner of the Old Borough Cup at Haydock last time, staying on strongly to score by four lengths. He has gone up 9lb for that but he is still well treated on his old form and can follow up. Trueshan is a classy stayer who won a Group 3 at Newbury last time and is the main threat.
- 4.45 King Vega – He was an eye-catching second on his debut at Sandown, coming from well off the pace to finish strongly behind a smart winner. He should have learned plenty from that run and can go one better in this maiden. Maximal is a well-bred newcomer who could be anything for Sir Michael Stoute.
- 5.20 Glorious Journey – He bounced back to form when winning a Group 3 at Newbury last time, showing a good attitude to hold off his rivals. He has plenty of back-class and can defy top weight in this handicap. Nahaarr is a progressive sprinter who won a big handicap at Newmarket last time and is respected.
NEWMARKET
- 1.15 La Barrosa – He made an impressive debut at Ascot, quickening away from his rivals to win by two lengths. He looks a smart prospect for Charlie Appleby and can take this step up to Group 3 level in his stride. Akmaam is another promising colt who won well on his debut at Doncaster and could give the favourite a race.
- 1.50 Albaflora – She has been progressive this season, winning twice over 1m4f at Ascot and Salisbury. She was not disgraced when fourth in a Listed race at Yarmouth last time, but she may appreciate this drop back in trip and grade. She has a good draw and can get back to winning ways. Katara is unbeaten in two starts and could be anything for Sir Michael Stoute.
- 2.25 Chindit – He maintained his unbeaten record when winning the Group 2 Champagne Stakes at Doncaster last time, showing a good turn of foot to beat some smart rivals. He looks a leading contender for next year’s 2,000 Guineas and can enhance his reputation with another win here. Thunder Moon is another exciting colt who won the Group 1 National Stakes at the Curragh last time and is the main danger.

- 3.00 One Ruler – He ran well when second in the Group 3 Acomb Stakes at York on his second start, staying on well over 7f. He then stepped up to 1m and won a novice race at Sandown in good style, beating some useful types. He looks ready for this step up to Group 3 level and can give Charlie Appleby another winner. Cobh is a consistent colt who was third in the Royal Lodge Stakes at Newmarket last time and can make the frame again.
- 3.35 Dancing King – He has been in fine form this season, winning four of his six starts over various trips. He was an easy winner of a handicap at Haydock last time, scoring by six lengths. He has gone up 12lb for that but he is still unexposed and can complete a five-timer in this marathon contest. Ranch Hand is a proven stayer who won the Cesarewitch Trial over this course and distance last time and is the main threat.
- 4.10 Star Of Emaraaty – She caused a 66-1 shock when winning the Group 3 Sweet Solera Stakes at Newmarket in August, beating some well-regarded fillies. She then ran creditably when sixth in the Group 1 Moyglare Stud Stakes at the Curragh last time, but she may appreciate this drop back in class and trip. Indigo Girl is a promising filly who won the Group 2 May Hill Stakes at Doncaster last time and is respected.
- 4.45 Turaath – She has been progressive this season, winning three of her four starts over 7f. She was an impressive winner of a handicap at Doncaster last time, quickening away from her rivals to score by four lengths. She has gone up 11lb for that but she is still well treated on her old form and can follow up. Tomorrow’s Dream is another in-form filly who won a handicap at Newmarket last time and can make the frame.
YORK
- 2.05 Mishriff – He has been a star performer this season, winning the French Derby and the Prix Guillaume d’Ornano in impressive fashion. He was not disgraced when second to Magical in the Irish Champion Stakes last time, but he may appreciate this drop back to 1m2f and this easier company. He can confirm his class with another win here. Elarqam is a high-class colt who won the Group 2 York Stakes over this course and distance in July and is the main danger.
- 2.40 Gulliver – He loves this track, having won three times over this course and distance. He was an unlucky fourth in the Ayr Gold Cup last time, finishing strongly after being hampered. He has a good draw and can go close in this valuable handicap. Mr Lupton is another course specialist who won the Listed Garrowby Stakes here last time and can make the frame.
- 3.15 Wondrous Words – She has been consistent this season, winning twice over 1m4f at Newmarket and Doncaster. She was not disgraced when fourth in a Group 3 at Goodwood last time, but she may appreciate this drop back in trip and grade. She has a good draw and can get back to winning ways. Alpinista is a classy filly who was second to Love in the Yorkshire Oaks here in August and is respected.
- 3.50 Makawee – She has been running well in some competitive handicaps this season, finishing second three times over various trips. She was only beaten a head at Ascot last time and looks ready to get off the mark in this handicap. She has a good draw and should go close under Daniel Tudhope. Alright Sunshine is another consistent performer who was third in the Cesarewitch Trial at Newmarket last time and can make the frame.
